Calculation Results

Load Breakdown

Wall / Ceiling / Floor Heat Gain:
Q_walls = Σ(U × A × ΔT) / 1000   [kW]
Where: U = thermal transmittance (W/m²·K), A = surface area (m²), ΔT = T_ambient – T_storage (°C)
Product Heat Load (cooling above freezing):
Q_product = m × Cp_above × (T_inlet – T_storage) / (t_op × 3600)   [kW]
Product Heat Load (freezing below freezing point):
Q_product = m × [Cp_above × (T_inlet – T_freeze) + L_f + Cp_below × (T_freeze – T_storage)] / (t_op × 3600)   [kW]
Infiltration Load (simplified ASHRAE):
Q_inf = 0.221 × A_door × √H_door × (T_amb – T_storage)^1.5 × D_factor × n_openings × t_open / 86400   [kW]
Miscellaneous Loads:
Q_misc = (Lighting × A_floor + Personnel × W_person × hrs/24 + Equipment + Fans) / 1000   [kW]
Total with Safety Factor:
Q_total = (Q_walls + Q_product + Q_inf + Q_misc) × (1 + SF/100)   [kW]
Recommended Compressor = Q_total × 1.15   [kW]

Evaporator (Unit Cooler) Sizing

Size evaporators based on the total cooling load. Capacity is automatically carried over from the Heat Load tab, or enter manually.

Evaporator Results

⚠️
Correction Note: Manufacturer evaporator ratings are typically given at a standard TD of 8K or 10K. When operating at a different TD, apply the manufacturer’s correction factor. Capacity is approximately proportional to TD ratio.
Required Capacity Per Evaporator:
Q_evap = Q_total / n_evaporators   [kW]
Evaporating Temperature:
T_evap = T_storage – TD   [°C]
Rated Capacity at Standard TD (correction):
Q_rated = Q_evap × (TD_standard / TD_actual)   [kW]
Where TD_standard is typically 8K or 10K per manufacturer datasheet
Defrost Derating:
Electric defrost: ~5% capacity loss
Hot gas defrost: ~3% capacity loss
Air defrost: ~8% capacity loss
Off-cycle: ~10% capacity loss
