Marine Electric Motors — CCS/BV Approved Y-H Series & Explosion-Proof
CCS and BV type-approved marine electric motors: Y-H series asynchronous motors (0.55-315 kW), explosion-proof Ex d variants, and DC motors for winch applications.
Need Class-Approved Marine Motors That Ship Faster Than 8 Weeks?
Marine motor procurement is often the bottleneck in deck machinery and auxiliary system delivery. European and Japanese OEM motors come with 12–16 week lead times and premium pricing. hicool supplies Y-H series marine-duty motors and YB explosion-proof motors from CCS/BV/ABS-approved Chinese manufacturers — same performance specifications, delivered in 3–5 weeks at 40–60% lower cost.
Marine Electric Motors — Y-H Series & YB Explosion-Proof
Our marine motor catalogue covers three product lines across 3 WC (warranty-certified) product families: Y-H series marine-duty three-phase asynchronous motors (0.75–315 kW), YB series explosion-proof motors for hazardous areas (Zone 1/Zone 2), and special-duty motors for crane, windlass, and pump applications. All units are designed for the vibration, humidity, salt spray, and inclination conditions specified in classification society rules.
Y-H marine motors feature Class F insulation (Class B temperature rise), IP56 enclosure protection, anti-condensation heaters, and corrosion-resistant paint systems as standard. Mounting arrangements include B3 (foot), B5 (flange), B35 (foot + flange), and V1 (vertical) to match any driven equipment. YB explosion-proof motors are certified to IEC 60079-1 (Ex d) for use in engine rooms with fuel-oil handling, pump rooms, and cargo areas on tankers.
Typical applications include driving deck machinery (windlasses, winches, capstans), pumps (ballast, bilge, cooling water, cargo), fans (engine room ventilation), compressors, and steering gear. We supply both for newbuilds and as replacement motors for vessels in service.

Product Range Overview
| Series | Power Range | Protection | Application | FOB Range (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Y-H Marine Duty | 0.75–315 kW | IP56 | General marine drives | $200–$12,000 |
| YB Explosion-Proof | 0.75–200 kW | IP56 + Ex d | Hazardous area drives | $400–$15,000 |
| YEJ Brake Motor | 0.75–55 kW | IP56 | Winch, crane, hatch cover | $350–$5,000 |
Y-H Marine vs Standard Industrial Motor — What’s Different?
| Feature | Y-H Marine Motor | Standard Industrial (Y Series) |
|---|---|---|
| Enclosure | IP56 | IP54 / IP55 |
| Vibration Rating | Marine class (15° roll, 22.5° pitch) | Not rated for marine motion |
| Corrosion Protection | Marine-grade paint + tropical treatment | Standard industrial paint |
| Anti-Condensation | Built-in heaters (standard) | Not included |
| Certification | Manufacturer’s class certificate (CCS/BV/ABS/DNV/LR/NK/KR/RINA/RS) | No marine class cert |
| Price | 30–50% premium over industrial | Base price |
Rule of thumb: Never use standard industrial motors on classified vessels — they will not pass class survey. Y-H marine motors are the minimum specification. For pump rooms, cargo areas on tankers, or any Zone 1/Zone 2 space, YB explosion-proof motors are mandatory.
Common Applications
- Deck machinery drives — anchor windlasses, mooring winches, capstans
- Pump drives — ballast, bilge, cooling water, fire-fighting, cargo (tanker)
- Engine room ventilation fan drives
- Steering gear hydraulic power unit motors
- Crane and hatch cover drive motors (brake motor type)
Recent Supply Example
A shipyard in Indonesia ordered 12 × Y-H marine motors (ranging from 7.5 kW to 90 kW) for pump and fan drives on two 8,500 DWT chemical tankers. All units supplied with BV certification, IP56, 440 V 60 Hz, and anti-condensation heaters. Delivered FOB Shanghai within 28 days at a total package price of ~USD 35,000.

Motor Replacement Guide
Read the Nameplate
Photo the existing motor nameplate. Key data: manufacturer, model, kW, RPM, voltage, frequency, frame size, IP rating. This is 80% of the specification.
Verify Mounting
Measure foot bolt pattern, shaft height, and shaft diameter. These must match exactly — a 1mm difference means the motor won't fit. We verify from your measurements before production.
Confirm Classification
Class surveyor will inspect the replacement motor certificate. Ensure the new motor's type approval matches your vessel's class (CCS/BV/ABS/DNV/LR/NK/KR/RINA/RS). We confirm certificate validity.
Order Spare Parts Kit
Include spare bearings, fan cover, and terminal box with the motor order. These are the most common failure parts. Cost: ~5% of motor price, saves future emergency orders.
