DJ Series Air Coolers — WKDL Low-Temperature Evaporators
WKDL DJ Series heavy-duty air coolers for blast freezing and ultra-low temperature storage (-25°C to -45°C). 11 models with hot gas defrost and wide fin spacing.
Need Blast Freezing Performance That Won’t Buckle at −45 °C?
Standard evaporators ice up fast and lose efficiency below −25 °C, forcing excessive defrost cycles that raise product core temperatures and waste energy. The WKDL DJ Series is purpose-built for ultra-low-temperature environments from −25 °C to −45 °C, featuring oversized coil surfaces, hot-gas defrost as standard, and heavy-gauge construction rated for continuous blast freezing duty.
WKDL DJ Series — Heavy-Duty Evaporators for Blast Freezing
The DJ Series delivers the coil surface area and airflow volume required for rapid product freezing. Nine models span 5.0 kW to 45.0 kW cooling capacity, with coil designs optimised for the high latent loads and extreme frost accumulation of blast freezing operations. Wide fin spacing (9 mm / 12 mm) extends operating time between defrost cycles, while hot-gas defrost clears ice in under 15 minutes without the energy penalty of electric heaters.
Fan assemblies use high-static-pressure axial fans with IP54 motors capable of pushing air through product stacks and tunnel racks. All models feature reinforced mounting brackets rated for the additional ice load weight at ultra-low temperatures, and stainless steel drip trays are standard.
The DJ line serves blast freezing tunnels, quick-freeze rooms in meat and seafood processing plants, pharmaceutical deep-freeze storage, and industrial nitrogen-assisted freezing systems.

DJ (Blast Freezing) vs KFS (Blast Chilling) — Which Do You Need?
| Feature | DJ Series | KFS Series |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Use | Blast freezing (product to −18 °C core) | Blast chilling (product to 0–3 °C core) |
| Room Temp | −25 to −45 °C | −35 to −45 °C air temp |
| Cycle Time | 4–24 hours depending on product | 90 min typical (chilling phase) |
| Fin Spacing | 9–12 mm | 9–12 mm |
| Defrost | Hot-gas standard | Hot-gas standard |
| Airflow Pattern | High volume, long throw | High velocity, directed |
Rule of thumb: DJ for continuous or batch freezing where products stay in the room for hours. KFS for rapid chilling in food processing where the goal is to pass through the bacterial danger zone (60–5 °C) in under 90 minutes.
Common Applications
- Blast freezing tunnels for meat, poultry, and seafood (−35 °C to −40 °C)
- Quick-freeze rooms for pre-packaged frozen food (−30 °C)
- Pharmaceutical ultra-low-temperature storage (−40 °C)
- Ice cream hardening rooms (−35 °C to −40 °C)
- Industrial plate/contact freezer support cooling

Blast Freezer Selection Guide
Define Freezing Target
Blast chill (+70°C→+3°C): 90 min. Blast freeze (+20°C→-18°C core): 4h. Ultra-low (-35°C to -45°C): specify product throughput (kg/h).
Choose Defrost Method
Hot gas defrost is mandatory below -30°C. Electric defrost acceptable for -25°C to -30°C but slower. Hot gas adds ~15% to unit cost but saves 60% defrost time.
Select Refrigerant
R404A/R507 for small systems (<500 kW). NH3 for large industrial (>500 kW). CO₂ cascade for ultra-low (-50°C to -60°C). Specify at inquiry — affects tube material.
Plan Airflow Pattern
IQF tunnels need directional airflow along product conveyor. Blast rooms need uniform distribution. We provide CFD-informed layout recommendations for large projects.
