50,000 DWT Chemical Tanker — Complete Deck Machinery Package
Table of Contents
Project Overview
A chemical tanker newbuilding project at a domestic Chinese shipyard required a complete deck machinery package including anchor windlasses, mooring winches, and capstans. The vessel operates under dual CCS/DNV classification, requiring all deck machinery to carry both society approvals — a requirement that significantly narrows the supplier pool.
The Challenge
Dual classification (CCS + DNV) means two separate sets of design reviews, two witness tests, and two sets of certificates. The windlass design had to comply with both CCS Rules Part D Ch.2 and DNV Rules Pt.4 Ch.8, which have slightly different testing requirements for brake holding capacity and overload testing.
Our Solution
We partnered with a deck machinery specialist in Jiangsu that holds both CCS and DNV Manufacturing Certificates. The factory designed to the more stringent of the two standards at each specification point, ensuring compliance with both classification societies simultaneously.
